So… what is epigenetics?
Let’s break it down.
The word epi means “above,” and genetics refers to our genes; the traits we inherit from our parents. So epigenetics literally means “above the genes.”
In other words, it’s the science of how your environment influences which of your genes get turned on or off.
And that changes everything.
Because for most of my life, I thought our genes were fixed. That whatever we inherited, we had to live with. But epigenetics taught me that our bodies are constantly listening - and responding - to the world around us and within us.
The Hidden world of chronic illness
When you’ve been sick for a long time, you find yourself in a strange, lonely space. Medicine is excellent at handling emergencies....but when things become chronic and complex, many of us fall through the cracks.
My own symptoms came out of nowhere: sudden muscle weakness, brain fog, and nervous system issues that left me in a wheelchair for 4 years. Years later, we finally traced it back to a strong reaction to an antibiotic I was prescribed for a simple UTI (ciprofloxacin), which carries a black-box warning that few people (including doctors) really read. This is called fluoroquinolone toxicity, and it's more common than you'd think.
But back then, I didn’t know any of that.
So I did what many of us do: I researched everything, connected with others online, read healing stories, and slowly started to gather tiny sparks of hope.
And one day, I made a decision: If I was going to heal, it would have to come from me. No one else was going to save me. And if epigenetics was real, if my environment could influence how my body functioned, then I was going to do everything in my power to create the best possible one so I could fully heal.
Could Changing My Environment Heal Me?
Epigenetics suggests that while we inherit our genes, how those genes behave is largely determined by our environment - and not just our physical surroundings, but also our internal state.
In fact, some studies estimate that 93% of our health outcomes are shaped by our environment, while only 7% are determined by our genes.
93%. That number stopped me in my tracks.
Could changing my environment help me heal?
The answer, I would come to learn, was yes - but first, I had to understand what ''environment'' truly meant.
What Counts as “Environment”?
We all instinctively understand that environment matters. If you get a deep cut and then party all night, drink alcohol, and don’t sleep, that wound won’t heal as quickly as if you rested, ate nourishing food, hydrated, and stayed calm.
We all know that healing requires the right conditions.
So why don’t we apply the same logic to chronic illness?
Too often, we fall into the belief that we are “too sick” to heal without a pill or a procedure. We outsource our power to something or someone outside of us.
But healing doesn’t start with a miracle cure. It starts with creating the right environment...inside and out.
Your environment is everything (and it’s not just what you think)
We tend to think of “environment” as the air we breathe and the food we eat. And yes, that matters. But it’s also:
• Your sleep
• Your light exposure
• Your daily movement
• The toxins you’re exposed to (like mold, pollution, pesticides...)
• Your social connections (or lack of)
• Your sense of safety and belonging
• Your relationship with nature
Every element in your environment sends signals to your cells. Those signals influence how your genes express themselves. They can activate genes that promote healing, or trigger ones that contribute to disease.
This is where my journey began.
I started changing everything I could: my diet, sleep habits, screen exposure, movement, sunlight, and relationships. I surrounded myself with people who believed in me. Slowly, the flame of life in me began to glow again.
And I got better. From 1% to 60% better.
But then I plateaued.
The Missing Piece: Your Inner Environment
If the outer environment had gotten me that far, what was I missing?
The inner environment.
Maybe you’re following all the “rules.” Eating clean, moving your body, drinking green juice, sleeping 8 hours every night.
And still… symptoms. Still… stuck.
I’ve been there.
That’s because healing doesn’t just happen in the body - it happens in the mind, too.
Epigenetics also includes the signals we send to our cells from within: our thoughts, emotions, nervous system patterns, and subconscious programming.
Science shows that 95% of our behavior is driven by the subconscious mind. That means most of the choices we make are rooted in old beliefs, habits, and emotional patterns we’re not even aware of.
If your subconscious is stuck in survival mode, your body won’t feel safe enough to heal. No matter how many supplements or smoothies you throw at it :)
The mind is more powerful than we think
I’ll never forget the story Bruce Lipton shared in that first video. A group of deeply religious people in the U.S.- Baptists - who believed so strongly in God that they let deadly snakes bite them during rituals… and they were fine. No symptoms.
How is that even possible?
Whether or not we understand how that works, the takeaway is clear: the mind is powerful.
Belief changes biology.
And so I began to explore this inner dimension...
I started diving into the science of the mind. I read everything I could about the nervous system, trauma, belief systems, and subconscious healing. And as I shifted what was going on inside, my body followed.
It took exploring my environment at a 360 level to unlock every level of healing. Today I can't even believe how much I've healed and what my body is now able to do - and to top it all off, I just gave birth to my first child in June 2025, feeling better than ever :)
Why I created Envol
At some point, I realized I wasn’t just healing for myself anymore. I wanted to create something to support others - especially those who feel overwhelmed, dismissed, or unsure where to even begin.
That’s why Tim and I built Envol.
It’s a healing space, designed to help you reconnect with your body’s natural ability to restore, rebalance, and regenerate.
Envol gives you the tools I wish I had when I was lost: science-backed resources to calm your nervous system, shift your beliefs, and support real, lasting healing - inside and out.
You are the environment your genes respond to
This is what epigenetics taught me.
Healing isn’t about finding the next magic pill. It’s about remembering that your body wants to heal - it’s built to heal- but it needs the right conditions.
And you have the power to create them.
You are not a victim. You are not powerless. You are the architect of your own healing environment.
And that, more than anything, is where the journey begins.
The Support I Wish I Had at the Beginning
When I was in the thick of my illness, I spent years researching everything - digging through studies, testing different tools, trying to make sense of what was happening in my body. I pieced it all together slowly, in the dark, often alone.
What I would’ve given back then for a clear path...Something that didn’t feel so overwhelming.
Something that gently said: here’s where to start… and here’s what to do next.
It’s the exact roadmap I wish I had - 10 months of easy-to-follow modules, built from the very tools that helped me heal. And you don’t have to do it alone. You'll be part of a supportive community that gets it - people who are walking a similar path, step by step, right alongside you.
The program opens only once a year. Our next enrollment will begin in January 2026, with the new group starting together in March 2026.
If you’re reading this and enrollment is currently closed, we’ve got good news:
We’re working on making the program’s core modules available individually, so you can access the exact support you need, when you need it.
